
I think I was able to practice my sense for comedy during that time. If he starts a conversation with you, you have to return a witty answer or else he’ll get grumpy. IGN: What are some of your favorite memories working on Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo as an assistant? Matsui: is a gag manga creator, so he always tries to play things for laughs during everyday conversation. IGN: Have you seen the Assassination Classroom English dub? What do you think about it? Matsui: I was amazed at how similar the dub actors sounded to the original Japanese! I could really feel the passion they put into doing a faithful adaptation. Thankfully, I had a character left over from an old scrapped project, so I reused that design for Koro-sensei. For students to have fun assassinating him, he needed to be in somewhat of a non-serious-looking form. IGN: How did you come up with a character like Koro-sensei? Matsui: If Koro-sensei was in human form, the story would be too serious. It really reinforced for me that the worries and frustrations of the students in Assassination Classroom were universal.

It was cool to be able to influence the scenery in New York, even just a bit.

Play IGN: Were you surprised to see how popular Assassination Classroom is in the west? What do you think made the series such a popular manga and anime globally? Matsui: We had an autograph session at a bookstore, and it was amazing to see everyone wrapped around the block.
